Posing a character or animal in software using only a mouse can be tedious. I set out to build a Virtual Reality Poser Application, featuring IK (Inverse Kinematics) and FK (Forward Kinematics) functionality. On import, Character Poser features a 1 click, full body IK rig (complete with limits when specified) on any imported rigged model (Insects, Animals, humanoids, …). Control points are added on hands, head, body, and feet that can be grabbed with the Vive controllers and used to pose part of the model, legs, or arms. There is a camera and light present that can be positioned, as well as a second canvas for final finetuning. When happy, a snapshot can be made with the camera that is automatically saved tot the app’s folder. The pose itself can also be exported and imported in DAZ.
The entire application is written in Unity 3D using node based Playmaker.
Thanks for checking this article out. See you in the next one!
